TGT 155 On Topic: GenCon 2019 Live

Today we’re live at GenCon 2019.  Well, not live anymore, but we were live when we recorded the show.  I guess that’s always the case too…  Ok, we had an audience and we made them do work.  How’s that?  This is one of our favorite shows because we get to have real back and forth conversations with some of you and that’s very cool for us.  So thanks to the people that could be there and even more thanks to those of you that couldn’t but still tune in each week.

TGT 154 On Topic: Target v. FLAGS

Today we’re we are talking about, how big box stores, like Walmart and Target effect the local game store and the industry as a whole. Are Target exclusives a good thing? Are these store pulling business away from the smaller stores? Is this the end of the local game store? No, but it is worth looking into how big box stores getting into the hobby will affect the hobby going forward.

TGT 153 On Topic: Trevor Davis

Who’s Trevor Davis?  A game designer we’ve never heard about?  An amazing artist?  Maybe a publisher of the next great game company? Maybe, we’re not sure.  But what we are sure of is Trevor writes us.  A lot.  And we love it.  And his 20 questions email inspired us (ok, Chris) to make an episode out of it.  So if you want to know what kind  questions a Trevor Davis might ask, this episode will answer all those questions.

TGT 152 On Topic: The Board Game Bubble

This week we look at what might be a board game bubble, or what might not be.  Who knew Fletcher had an econ degree?  This one has layers that might be enlightening, if they are at all understandable.  Bubbles.

TGT 151 On Topic: Off Topic?

We’ve run out of topic!  Not really, but this is a grab bag of an episode none-the-less.  Fireworks, babies, weddings, and of course we do talk about some games and feedback.  Don’t worry, we’ll be back to a normal episode next week… probably.

One last thing – you may notice this was published earlier than normal.  We’ve been having some issues with our auto publisher, so we figured it’s better to be early than to be late when the auto publisher fails.

TGT 150 On Topic: Our Top 10 Games

Today we’re doing our first top 10 list.  Well, three of them really.  There are no rules to the list, just that there are 10 games on it.  We don’t want to spoil the list here.  But we also know that it’s handy to have a written reference, so we’ll spoil the list below the the links.  In other words, don’t scroll down until after you’ve listened to the show!

TGT 149 On Topic: Competitive Gaming

Today we’re talking about being super competitive and the games that encourage this level of competitiveness.  We’ve all seen these types of players, or maybe know them, or maybe are them… The players that must win.  The “If you’re not first, you’ve lost” kind of players.  So, we’re going to talk about competitiveness in gaming.

TGT 148 On Topic: Vacation Games

Today we’re talking about vacation games. These could be games we bring with us or games we find sitting on the shelf of our AirBnB or in the closet of grandma’s house. What makes games good, or awful choices for this situation?

TGT 147 On Topic: Huge Games

Today we’re talking about those games that take up a LOT of space. Sometimes that means space on the table, but it often means multiple boxes, or over sized boxes, or dozens or hundreds of miniatures. These are the games that are a challenge to store and likely a bigger challenge to get a chance to play. So today, we’re talking about what attracts us to, or repels us from these games.

TGT 146 On Topic: The Game Crafter (dot) Com

This week we talk about TheGameCrafter.com.  This is a site that lets you make and print games, but it also has a lot of other cool features that even game designers may want to use.  We talk all about it.  Trust us, everyone should listen to this one… Email us at feedback@TabletopGameTalk.com – for questions and feedback. TGT 145 On Topic: Designing Games

This week we talk about designing games.  Or more accurately, amateurs trying to design games.  There is a lot of cross over between video games and tabletop games, so we talk about a bit of that too.
